Track and Field

Both Hannah and Paige are just finishing up their track season.  Paige ran for the first time this year in middle school.  She tried just about everything... high jump, hurdles, 100m, 4x100m relay and 1600m.  A great year to see what she likes.

Hannah started her first season of high school track.  With her first season of cross country under her belt, she opted for the longer track distances.  But not too long because '8 times around a track is just way too boring Mom'.  So no 3200m for her.  She ran some relay and the 1600m, but she really began to shine when she started running the 800.  In fact, she qualified for state yesterday with a second place finish in regionals.  She will be competing in Boise next week in the 800m. Way to go Hannah!  Quite an accomplishment for a freshman.

It was a special treat to qualify for the Pasco Invite.  Not only because it is an invitation-only meet, but also because three of her Washington cousins were also competing.  What a treat to spend the day with family at the track meet!

Chapter Books

Izzy has discovered chapter books.  She is off and running (or reading)....

Party Month

April is party month at our house.  Here's why...

It all starts with Izzy.  She was lucky enough to celebrate her birthday on the top of Angel's Landing in Zion's National Park.  Pretty great accomplishment on your 7th birthday.

 The party continued when we got home with her 'friends' birthday party at the pottery bug.  Lots of cute little bugs at that party.

Then comes Hannah. At 15, she is going through her teen years very gracefully.

Whew!  That's a lot of birthday cake in one month.

Spring Break 2015

Wow! What an amazing spring break.  One week in Southern Utah with Bret, Elizabeth and Natalie.  Hours and hours of driving, three national parks, 35 miles of hiking, gallons of water, pounds of snacks, and best of all -  miles and miles of smiles.

 Day 1

We started out big by hiking the Zion Narrows.  It was a little (actually A LOT) more crowded than we ever imagined.  But if you could look at the view and mentally edit out all of the people, it was incredible!

 

 

 Day 2

We drove 60 miles over dirt roads (the last 5 were more like rock climbing) to make it to Toroweap Look-out.  An amazing view of the Grand Canyon as far as the eye can see in both directions.  Thanks Vern and Rosemary for joining us and letting us ride in your truck those last few crazy miles!

 

 Day 3

Back to Zions National Park to meet Mike, Molly and kids to hike Angel's Landing.  Probably our most memorable hike of the week.  So spectacular, so high!

 

Day 4

Buckskin Gulch.  Miles of steep sandstone walls.  Amazing every single step.

 

Day 5

Zions Overlook hike and more exploring in the park.  What a beautiful place!

Day 6

Bryce National Park.  It was the end of the trip and we were about hiked out.  But we were all glad Bret talked us into hiking the full loop.  Well worth it - even on our tired legs.

Day 7

Easter Egg hunt at Grandma's!  What a treat.

Regionals

Hannah helped her cross country team win Regionals last week.  It was a rainy and dreary day, but she worked hard and made her best ever time, moving up to #20 on the Sandpoint High School Top 25.  Way to go Hannah!

Next weekend she heads to Boise to run for the state title.  Her team has a good chance of winning State.

The Sandpoint Cross Country team swept the 4A team titles at the Regional Cross Country meet at Riley Creek today. Starting the day off was the Girls Varsity race, where Rainey Woodward continued her strong season by placing second in a time of 19:28. She was closely followed by Mikhaela Woodward, who was 3rd and ran a 19:36 on her first race back from injury. Sharon Rowe was 4th, right behind Mikhaela running a 19:37 and bettering her #9 All-Time top 25 mark. Claire Pierce was 6th (20:32 - #15 All Time), Cori McClelland 8th (20:41 - #18 All Time), Hannah Davidson 9th (20:43 - #20 All Time) and Emily Marshall 12th. The girls won the team title with 23 points over 2nd place Moscow who scored 36. Lakeland was 3rd with 79.

 

Run like the Wind

As a freshman this year, Hannah chose to join the cross country team.  She started training in June, began 'official' practice with the team in August, and had her first race in September.  In less than 6 months of training, she has found that she is a natural.  She works hard, listens to her excellent coaches and she does what they tell her to do.  As a result, she is running really well.  She claimed the top spot for Sandpoint JV in her first race.  The next race, she filled in for the varsity team.  This last week she also ran varsity and with her great times, it looks like she is earning a permanent spot on the varsity team as a freshman.  Way to go Hannah!
