Septic and Power

Along with framing, a lot is happening today.  The septic tank went in the ground today and the power company is laying line from the road to the house.

Framing

Framing has been going for a while now.  It seems sooooooo slow while we wait for rooms to emerge and spaces to start taking shape.  The 2nd floor joist are going up today as well as some large beams.

We have a floor!

The concrete trucks were here again today to pour the garage and back patio/sidewalk.  The house and front porch were poured last week while we were out of town.  Because we have hydronic heat, we opted to do a slab foundation.  This means all of the initial plumbing had to be done up front as well as the running of the hydronic tubing and some electrical outlets that will be in the floor.  It's been a long process - especially with the record amounts of rain we have been having this month.  But, so far it is looking good.  Let's just hope we put that toilet in the right place!

We decided to dye the concrete in the house and score it in a decorative diagonal pattern since it will be our finished surface.  I am excited about the color.  It is a charcoal gray looking color and I think it will look nice when it is all polished up.

Here we go...

Excavation began this week.  The foundation footings were poured today.  It finally looks like something is happening out there!

Under Construction

We are getting things ready to start building the new house.  First thing to go in was the well.  When looking for an appropriate location, the well guy water witched over most of the property.  He showed me several locations he thought would be good.  When he got to one particular location, he told me it was his favorite because his shoulder really hurt when he witched over it - something about feeling it in his bones.  Sure enough - it was a good one.  We hit two water lines intersecting each other.  Water jackpot!

Second thing to go in was the start of the driveway.  Here is Kirk staking it out.  Then he used the backhoe to dig out the topsoil.  Then came the road fabric.  Then came the gravel.  About 15 truckloads so far and we are just building up the base.
