Memorial Day Weekend

I am VERY slow, but here are some photos from our Memorial Day trip to Roosevelt for a little kite boarding.  Thanks to Verna who supplied most of these photos.

We had some good wind days and lots of fun on the water.  Here's Keith...

And here's me - I'm the one with the brown and blue kite.

The kids even got into the water with the kites for the first time this year.  Drew showed his muscles before heading out in to the water for a little ride on Keith's back during a body drag.

Hannah suited up for her first body drag.  For those of you non-kite boarders - a body drag is where you let the kite drag you through the water to learn how to safely use the kites power.  She has been practicing flying kites on land and was ready for the next step.  She came back with a big smile on her face, so I'd say it was a success.

Aside from the great kite boarding, the best part of the trip was time with family.  We had plenty of quality time with cousins.  Maren and Drew were reading Junie B. Jones to each other on the bunk beds.

Neil and Izzy spent lots of time on the swings.  Give me an underdog anyone???

There were plenty of cousins to play with in the sand and the water.

Even Grandma Hyde joined us.  Thanks Sue & Bill, Rick & Judy for bringing her.  It was so fun to have you all there.  Next year we want to see you in the water!

Just about everyone tried out the small kites on land -

A hike out to the point and a little rock climbing -

Crafts in the trailer -

It was a wonderful weekend!  When can we go again?

Rosie

For Memorial Day weekend we packed up and headed to Roosevelt (a.k.a. Rosie) on the Columbia River for some camping and kite boarding.  A lot of Kirk's family joined us so it was also a sort of family reunion.  Besides having good wind every day of our trip, here are our favorite parts...

Izzy
The swings.  Swimming. Playing with Grandma.

Maren
Playing with Grandma and cousins.  Not swimming - because I couldn't, because I hurt my foot and couldn't get it wet (hence the wetsuit booties).

Paige
Finding old friends, making forts and hideouts.

Hannah
Flying the trainer kite, playing an impromptu soccer game.

Other highlights...
Watching most of the kids, Uncle Rick, Aunt Judy and especially
Grandma Hyde (she is 92 yrs. old) fly the trainer kite.

Summer kick-off

We kicked off summer this Memorial Day weekend by taking our first kite boarding trip of the year. We met most of Kirks family in the Columbia River Gorge. Here are a few of the things we did... Playing in the sand... It was too cold for swimsuits and my girls didn't even ask. Maybe next trip! Watermelon... Visiting with family and spending lots of quality time together... Swing sets...
We estimated that these swing sets - out in the middle of nowhere - probably get more use than most swing sets in a typical community park. The park was teeming with kids and the swing sets were in constant use all weekend.
Kite boarding, of course! Bike riding...
You should see 2yr. old cousin Neil go on his boot scoot. I wish I had a video. Izzy figured out how to talk aunts and uncles into pushing her up the hill so she could ride down.
There was also plenty of great food and plenty of junk food (sorry, no pictures). Too bad I only did a little bit of running. It was a great weekend and we can't wait to go back a few more times this summer.
